So with the application of filmic rgb, we leave a bit the principle of mimicking the Fujifilm film simulations as close as possible. The slightly greater contrast, that's a consequence of filmic rgb. So this is what I get by just opening the raw in darktable! (And one click for exposure correction in this case.) The colors are a bit less saturated as compared to the OOC image. X-T4, Laowa 15 mm f/4 Wide Angle Macro, handheld, Classic Chrome, OOC.įrom the raw, darktable, my 'decent baseline' (all steps as presets), just lifted exposure a tad above +0.5. • Make sure to download the png files ("Profiles ready to use in RawTherapee and Affinity Photo.") Use the png files directly.
  • I have never found LUTs for Fujifilm film sims of a similar quality anywhere else. They are made for X-Trans III but they also work with X-Trans IV.

Instead of vignetting, exposure is recommended with a mask. I am not that much a purist in raw development, for me, the outcome, the 'look', matters, though, I try to comply. Color zones for example is display referred, so is vignetting. What module is what, this is not so easy to see in darktable.

  • Purists will want to avoid any display referred modules when they work scene referred.
  • More mathematical corrections such as perspective correction, crop, rotate.
  • I sometimes play with the contrast slider (if so, I mostly reduce contrast) in filmic rgb.
  • Very often, I use the tone equalizer with masks, also multiple instances.
  • Often with color balance rgb to improve saturation, vibrance etc.
  • Of course depends on scene, importance, purpose. But oftentimes I am already happy with what the baseline delivers.

From that baseline, I then start my manual operations. What comes after my standard presets - manual improvementsĪs I said, all the standards happen automatically. That's why I call it my decent baseline.Įxample how to define a module as an automatically applied preset for all raw you open with darktable. With these auto applied presets, all steps described above happen automatically upon simply opening a raw. Defining an auto applied preset is simple, you will find it in the burger menu in each module. How did I manage? - I defined an auto applied preset for each of these modules. If you don't like this, there is a contrast slider in filmic.įor all this, I do not have to click anything, I just need to open a raw. I like it a lot, it adds a special look to my images. Classic Chrome is my preset but I can change to any other Fuji film sim with one click. LUT 3D: Fuji XTrans III - Classic Chrome.png. Sharpen: radius 2, amount 0.5, threshold 0.5.With this, I get an exposure equal to jpeg OOC with Fujifilm X-trans III sensor. Need to select the lens manually in case of manual lenses.Įxposure +0.5 EV. My standard setting is strength 0.5 instead of 1. Base curve deactivated (since I work with LUTs).My darktable presets that deliver me a decent baseline See that there is also a link to my LUTs. For me, the outcome counts.ĭarktable settings for scene-referred workflow. I do this because I want to come close to the Fujifilm film simulations. My workflow is certainly not 'academically clean' since I rely on LUTs. According to the darktale manual, scene referred workflow is 'much more physically realistic and produces fewer artifacts'. (.) Scene referred (.) means the image data is maintained in a format that as closely as possible represents the original scene, without effective restriction on color or dynamic range." Source of this statement: My Musing. "Display referred means the images being manipulated are immediately transformed into the color space (.) of the displays being used to perform the image manipulations, restricting the image color and dynamic range available during the creative manipulation process. Scene referred, what does that actually mean? Here is an understandable explanation that I found in the web.

Here I provide an update since I changed my workflow with the scene referred technology. Meanwhile, the scene referred workflow was introduced. One and a half years ago, I shared my darktable workflow to provide a decent baseline.
